Bottom line on Raspberry pi/Ethenet Mesa FPGA was created by hhscott
I am sure that the answer to this question lies deep within the threads here, however I am having issues nailing down a simple definitive answer.
Will the Raspberry Pi 4 with a Mesa 7i76e work well with LinuxCNC?
The PC motherboard that I have used in the past with LinuxCNC and Mesa is no longer available and I just need to know if this combination is a viable solution.
Thanks,
HH

I think it work reasonably well if you don't run into
the graphics or memory limitation of the RPI
It is much more of a pain to setup

I started out with Raspberry Pi 4 with a Mesa 7i96. It worked okay, except that I had a problem where the ethernet connection would randomly drop. I tried diagnostics on it and worked with the folks in the Discord chat, and never figured out why it was happening. I ended up purchasing a refurb HP Elite Desk (for a little more than what I paid for the Raspberry Pi 4 kit) and it is a far better experience and has been rock solid.
I did look into replacing the Mesa 7i96 with Mesa 7c80 which connects to the GPIO of the PI as I have heard that is a solid configuration. I may look at this for future builds, but at the time the refurb desktop was the cheaper of the two options, and was the quicker option to get my machine up and running.

Some people have needed to run a 2ms servo thread period on the RPI4 with Ethernet connected cards to avoid timeouts

It does run on the 64bit image that elovalvo has posted somewhere in the forums.

I'd look into other options since the Rpi's are in short supply and high priced for now.
