Hello everyone,i have installed linuxCNC for the first time to try it out.To begin i wanted to use one of the sample configs with simulation to find an easy introduction to linuxCNC. But when i run any sample config i get the following error message.is this a known problem?is there a solution?

Did you build LinuxCNC from source?
If so, then I suspect that you forgot the "sudo make setuid" step.,

If not, then it's a more perplexing question.

Looking more carefully, you are logged in as root.

Reinstall is the only option, and this time when asked for a ROOT password, just click next. But do add a USER password.
A lot of software will refuse and/or complain when run as ROOT, it is a full rights administrator account.

Please notice on the picture, Linux is running with the ROOT user account.

I am a bit confused, because the LinuxCNC installer doesn't offer the option to create a root password (it is pre-seeded as blank)

I am sure of that, i have 2.8.4 official ISO on one of the laptops.
Also i am sure he is running as ROOT, but i have no idea how or why.

You should not need to reinstall, just add a normal user if none exits, logout as root and login using that username and pw
