dear all,
here comes a simple question regarding the use of Linuxcnc:
I want to run an ngc file not from the start but from somewhere further down the line. If i select the line and press the start button it jumps back to the top and starts from there.
How do i manage to start from that slected line?

regards
Rainer

In Axis, if you right click on the line number in the bottom part where the gcode is displayed, you will have the option to click "Run from here" in the popup menu. It will run from there without having to click start. Be sure your spindle / router is up to speed and you start on a Z up move so that your bit doesn't plunge into the work.

I've tried it now . However, the program alwasy jumps to the top line and starts from there?
Any guess, why?

No idea, it just worked for me when I tried it.

Which GUI are you using?

I tested a bit and for me the "start from line" option works very badly. With the XYZ axes, when machining the bas-relief, the cutter passes through the material and destroys the entire work before it starts working properly a few or a dozen lines below. It's the same on axis and qtdragon.

Best to start at the first block after a tool change. That can get you in trouble still if there is no move in a clear plane to establish a safe path back to the part.

I've tried it now a couple of times. Selecting the line first, then start from this line - the result is alwys the same, the program starts right from the beginning. misterious. would a different GUI be better?
