Message I don't understand was created by acourtjester
I am in the stages of configuring a new table with LinuxCNC QPLasmaC, and just got my Ohmic sensor working ( my own version module).
When I tested it with the button it works as I would expect, and after a short delay it starts moving up.  I get an statement that I don't understand that is.  Safe transverse height has been reduced.  On my other table when doing a cut the software controls the movement of the Z for the touch off and then pierce height movement.  When I had this controller hooked to my other table I did a test cut and noticed an odd movement of the torch before each touch off.  The torch moved to the next start location and it would move up almost to the limit switch before doing the touch off (I used a floating head switch but assume it would be the same with the Ohmic sensor).  I think these 2 movements are related so I am looking for an answer, why the message, and how do I reduce the height movement before the start of the cutting operation.  Attached video show the movement I talk about above.
Thanks Tom

You possibly have Safe Height set lower than Probe Height, it should normally be the other way around or the same height.

Safe traverse error means that the top of the material was detected and the distance between the top of the material and the maximum Z travel is less than the Safe Height.

Safe Height is the height above the top of the material that the Z axis moves to between cuts.
Probe Height is the height above the Z minimum limit that the Z axis moves to at Setup Speed, then the probe begins at Probe Speed.

Edit: I like the look of your floating head, are the files for that freely available?

Thanks Phill
Like many things names of things are different between people. (: Once you understand what the name means things becomes clear. (:
Is this where I change the height setting, see image
I would be more than happy to share the files/info about the floating head assembly and the Magnetic breakaway holder.
I can send them via the Google drive.

I don't normally pay much attention to Plasma, but as i was watching the video it occurred to me that a reduction in parts could be achieved by floating the nut in the slide, rather than the head on the slide.
Does anyone do that?

I've built 5 floating head assemblies and always had a the floating bit separate from the z-axis nut/plate.

Nut->Z-plate->slide-rail->sliding thing->torch holder.

In two cases it was because the plasma head came off and a router spindle went on... don't want a floating spindle.

Do you have a napkin sketch idea of 'floating the nut'?

Yes, that is the correct place.
Thanks for the files, I am on the road at present but will check them out when I return home.
