Want to use step servo encoder with Linuxcnc was created by virencq
Hello Linuxcnc,
I have a running CNC lathe (Raspberry PI 4B with double step), X with step servo 2HSS86H-based driver. Z with lead shine EL6 servo. 5Kw VFD 0-10 volt.
Everything G76 also working fine (without forum members' help it cannot be possible, so many many thanks to all). My zeal and enthusiasm lead me here.
No scene is I have encoders in both motors, but I want that encoder to talk to Linuxcnc.
If I disconnect the encoder cable from the drive it doesn't run. I thought I pull A & B wire from the encoder and put it as inputs in Raspberry PI 4.

- Is that feasible?
- or we can use Encoder wires A & B in the drive and Linuxcnc simultaneously?

Many drives have a passthrough for the encoder signals, ie a quadrature output from the drive.
But, what do you intend to do with the signals? They can be useful for tuning, but for general use an alarm output from the drive probably achieves as much as encoder and f-error checking.
I think that Mesa have a small card that can be used as an encoder signal splitter.
It's a bit like store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=produc...74_80&product_id=287 but I am not sure if it is that particular one, you probably need to ask Mesa.
