CHATGPT and linux cnc. was created by RRcnc
Hi guys. I'm having fun asking Chatgpt how to code/configure linux cnc. I can't tell if what it is outputting has any error before I try it but it looks thorough and promising to say the least.
I was wondering if anyone else has used Chatgpt to code linux cnc.

I dont know where chatgpt stands on the openai totem pole, so I cant comment on that.
I recently got access to codex, but I havent played with it yet. Ive used text-davinci-003 to do a bunch of stuff though. Lots of weird fanfiction/stories, lots of satire fakenews.
At work, I hate the industrial practice of 5S, so I said, "write me an 400 word article about how 5S in japanese factories is causing low birthrates"
CNC related,
"write a gcode program with a chamfering and drilling operation at x and y "
results were decent given the input. not a perfect program, but pretty good.
"write a joke about cnc machining"
"Why did the CNC machine dump the manual milling machine? Because it could never get a good finish"
The only explanation of this joke my friend and I could think of, was that this is a dirty joke.
"write a sarcastic tagline for a cnc machinist"
"CNC Machinist, Just another cog in the machine"
we asked it a for a bunch of sarcastic stuff about cnc machining/machinist....the results were really funny....at first. Eventually they got very mean and hit too close to home, personally and professionally.
In regards to programming, Ive asked it to do me some python stuff. You need to choose your input wisely. Im pretty sure it scrapes github, so you get existing stuff from github.
In reguards to linuxcnc specific, it gave me sometimes decent explanations of things. More times though, it gave me what is very convincingly looks correct, but in reality it was just fluff and assumptions based on variable names. At the surface, it looked like it was really explaining the linuxcnc file I would feed it. But then I started to backtrace the code I gave it, it was not matching the explanation except for the same names.
Reading through after this, I dont think text-davinci-003 can do actual coding. Browsing through the examples, it has coding related options, but I think the actual coding ai are on the codex bot, like code-davinci-002.
also full discloser, I was feeding it links to raw github files instead of sending it the raw file, because it is cheaper to send it a url than to send it a full program.
your results may very, but post them with your input
