program suts down after I invoke Feedhold (or pause) was created by Ibmack
Hi,Apologies in advance for being unfamiliar with this forum and being a newbie on CNC. I run a sherline 4 axis cnc mill with linuxcnc. My problem is that whenever I use Feedhold (or Pause) to say pause a job overnight, the program shuts down and gives me an error report. Obviously this screws up my job. It has never shut down during a job, only if I use Feedhold or Pause and I don't know how long after I invoke those commands it takes for the program to shut down. I have the error report attached if that helps. I have run the latency test (not sure why that would be the problem) and report a max jitter rate of about 61,000 (base thread). Can anyone point me in the right direction to solving this problem? Thanks,Ian

You are using 'Mini' screen and got a real time delay error.
Mini is very old and not included anymore so I can't comment why it shuts down.
The real time error means the computer sometimes has too much latency, which could be related to 'sleep' settings or other oddities. Is it a laptop?
Do you ever get a real time error while using the system?
You could try improve the latency problem and or update to a modern version of linuxcnc.
Or never leave it running overnight.
Others may have better ideas too.

Thank you for the feedback cmorley. I’ve only had the mill up and running for a few weeks having bought it new in the box from a guy that had it lying around for 12 or 13 years. It came with the Sherline build desktop computer. It is only running Linux OS. I upgraded Linuxcnc to the most recent version Sherline recommends, which I realize is not as current as it could be but maybe I should give that a try soon.
The program has never crashed while running. It has crashed four times in the last two weeks when I feed hold or pause (for any multi-hour period). No sleep settings on.
Yes unless I can find something concrete I will refrain from using feedhold for any long periods of time.
Thanks again. If anyone else may have some insight, I'm all ears.

If you try updating , please use a different hardrive so you can switch back.
Updating a 12 year old version of linuxcnc could be a lot of effort.
