My Bridgeport is mechanically ok, currently reworking the head, fitted with Ballscrews as it is CNC. However the crusader 2 is terminal and I wanted to replace it with LinuxCNC. The motors and drive cards are all good (SEM motors with tacho feedback) the driver cards use
+ and - 12 V for speed and direction control.
all axis, z included are fitted with Anilam linear encoders and travel limit switches.

so, to my question, what do I need to purchase to get up and running with Linux CNC?

thanks

There are a umber of options for +/- 10V control (which is likely to be what is actually used)

If you have a parallel port you could look at pico-systems.com/PPMC.html

Otherwise the main contenders come from Mesa. There are two families of Mesa cards either DB25 or HD50. 5i25 +7i77 is a popular combo but the 5i25 seems to be out of stock. There is stock of 7i77 though

Which can be interfaced with the 7i92T and cotrolled by ethernet.

(Check with Mesa if the 7i77 pugs into the 7i92TM or TF variant.)
This is similar to the (out of stock) 7i97 ( store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=produc...83_85&product_id=344 )

My machines all use the HD50 style cards. 5i24 + 7i33 is probably worth a look if you have a PCI port (the PCIe 6i24 is out of stock)
