Maho 500E2 retrofit was created by Skraidukas
Hello guys,

Just joined this forum looking for advise.
I purchased nice Maho MH 500E2, and allmost everyting is ready for the first chips on original Philips 432 controls, but.
Main spindle drive called KDA is dead and replacements start at 2500 to 3000Eu. It would be cheeper to purchase new spindle motor and controller for this money, but then it wont work on original set up.  So as I never used original controlls I would consider retrofit this mashine to Linux witch would dramaticaly inproove its capabilityes and speed over original dated controller.
Question would be whitch Mesa cards would be easyest to work on or most advisable in my situation preferably plug and play?
Mashine runs Indramat AC servos and analog drivers. I would like to do minimum intervention and leave all original wiring.
My first idea was to go for 5i25 and 7i77.

Mesa 7i97 for analog or Mesa 7i95 for step/dir if you change the drives.
But since the chip shortage is still around, getting a 7i96S with a 7i77 and a 7i84 would be even better as it would do for analog and step dir with plenty of IO.

Does the E2 have a DC main spindle motor or an AC servo?

What is wrong with the original driver? Could be something as simple are blown capacitors.
