looking to configure a central file server for hosting gcode, etc and need it to he compatible with lcnc , minimal overhead and works with windows.

was thinking maybe just stand up a internal ftp server, but curious what other options are easy to integrate and work with minimal effort.

I've got a gigabit on property hardwired network, and I'll have 5 machines on the network plus my cad/cam workstation in my home office.

so what's everyone using for file sharing synchronization ???

I use a USB stick plugged into the router. It acts as an ftp so there are no issues with windows or linux accessing it.

I'm using a Rockstor server. Linux based and samba file handler. Works with Windows and Linux systems.

Just get a Synology NAS and the IT is all done for you for both Windows and Linux.

You can just enable Samba on your linuxcnc box (best if you Linux users have permissions to their home folder) but Windows has by default disabled a SMB policy which needs to be enabled to allow it to work. Then you can save files straight to the nc_files folder.
