Just get a Synology NAS and the IT is all done for you for both Windows and Linux.

You can just enable Samba on your linuxcnc box (best if you Linux users have permissions to their home folder) but Windows has by default disabled a SMB policy which needs to be enabled to allow it to work. Then you can save files straight to the nc_files folder.

With Rockstor enable samba and install from rock_ons install (Web Service Discovery For Windows Networks). Windows will handle it as a network drive, and so will Linux. This will run on a Pi and it is free.
