HiI'm looking for some help with an old Bridgeport Interact 4 s2 that has had a CNC conversion in yesteryears
I am not by any means a machinist or a CNC professional and this is the first time I've been asked to repair a machine of this kind. I hope that the below makes sense.
The mill has got a Linux pc connected that is running software gmoccapy for linuxcnc 1.5.6.4The standard manual bridgeport controls have not worked while the machine is under our ownership. Also fitted is what appears to be a Mesa 7133TA and 7137-TA servo controller
The reported problem was the machine would randomly stop with a "axis x following error" which was only resettable with a shut down/power up.When I arrived, the machine would manually jog in the x,y and z directions fine and I was trying to recreate the reported problem by simply jogging the machine around.
If I jogged the X axis to its negative limit, it did throw up a X axis following error message but that was easily reset from the HMI.
Continuing to try and replicate the error, I started the spindle and jogged back to the negative x limit. This time i got the axis following error , as well as an error that mentioned the emergency stop. This needed a shut down to reset
Now, the machine will not home, and will not jog in any direction. I get the axis following error for all 3 directions.Thinking that there may be some kind of limit switch other than the obvious one, I manually advanced the x motor by pulling the timing belt until the bed was in the middle again but I still have the same errors and I can't get the machine to move at all.
Would anyone be able to help with what to do next?

Can you post the .hal and .ini files from the linuxcnc config folder?
When you say that the machine will not home does it not do anything at all or does it throw a following error trying to move?
Are there encoders on the motor or linear scales on the machine?

I have opened the folder but there seems to be a few files... Somebody has had trouble with this before by the looks of it.
How do I find out which file is in use?

It is the .ini file that gets called to start the configuration. How do you start it on your particular machine (ie icon, terminal command, through the config picker)?
You can also zip the entire folder and post that.

Folders with LinuxCNC configurations are very small in size, so they can always be uploaded here.
What folder did you compress/upload?
Configs are always in
/home/user_name/linuxcnc/configs/....

Hi Tommy
I'll double check shortly but I'm fairly sure that was the folder... It seems to have loads of .hal and .ini files inside it

Hi
I've double checked and the folder I zipped was
/home/vmc/linuxcnc/configs
Obviously I don't know much about what the contents of this folder actually do, but it seems to me like there has been a variety of config files used over the machines many years and the folder has filled up? I've tried looking for a setting in gmoccapy to tell it which config to use but I couldn't see one

Pressing the home button results in absolutely nothing - no movement or error messages.
Jogging the Y and Z axis results in no physical movement but the software briefly thinks it is before throwing a Axis Following erro
Jogging the X axis immediately throws up the error
As far as I can tell there are encoders on the motor

Your google drive requires access permissions, to many hoops to get to them, make them publicly available.
Turn the motors by hand and watch the on screen DRO if the axis values change.
