Apologies for that, it's now public.

The axis value changes if we spin the motor by hand with the timing belt removed

Drives are disabled, so check for limit/home/safety/e-stop/etc switches, check power for the sensors and drive enables, fuses for said power supplies...

Yes, sounds like the drives or analog +-10V commands are disabled somehow

Hello, sorry for the delayed response. I am not based at this site and only just got back to the machine. The e stop seems to be working ok because I get the notification on the HMI when I press it in and I get error "external estop is set, could not change state" .There are 2 limit switches that also seem to be ok because i get a small symbol show up on the HMI when I press them

There are 2 breakers in the back which seem ok..there is a fuse which is good.

Photos attached of estop in and estop out, plus the limit switch symbol:  photos.app.goo.gl/tjetB8aMhgUxSHuj6

if anyone could shed some light on what to check next I would be grateful

Adam

Please ignore the above.... I found another enclosure with a popped breaker. The thing runs again now.

So I'm now back at the original reported problem of it randomly stopping for X axis following error which I will try and reproduce again tomorrow.

Meanwhile, does anyone have any thoughts on what it may be?

Yes its resolved but its a process, not a simple switch. My video shows  best practice for PREEMPT_RT tuning which should resolve following errors.

Rod,
Analog drives with following errors on some axis/joints, so why are you pushing your video that will not help?
How is your software solution going to help for hardware issues???

Sorry, I misunderstoeod the issue. Tuning the PREEMPT_RT kernel to minimize latency can solve some following errors and it is not documented anywhere in one place and those who follow my guide have had some impressive results as shown in user comments in the video.
This was a very hard topic to put together in a coherent manner.
