My first guess would be that the device does not have driver support in Buster.
Bookworm has much better driver support of recent devices but there is no guarantee that will fix it.
I would do some homework on the device and find out what the underlying hardware is then see if you can locate a driver for it before upgrading.
Getting running with bookworm is described  here linuxcnc.org/docs/2.9/html/getting-start...etting-linuxcnc.html

Buster does not have the "non free" drivers included so most stuff does not work out of the box.
Some new wifi dongles do not work even with new versions of Linux, i did bump into one of those.
You can install drivers for it, have a look on Debian forums and howtos.
Or, as Rod mentioned, install Debian BookWorm as it does come with non free stuff.
To be sure, you can download the Live version of BookWorm and boot the PC from it so you can check if the wifi works, without installing anything.
