The attached says it all. When I touch off x and y with g54, the file outline never changes from the machine zero point. Any suggestions? Thank you all.

What are you touching off as? The preview position looks about right for tool at 0,0 ?

Thank you for replying. As the preview shows G54 places the work offset at the center of the machine. The preview though does not update to move the file to the bed center. It is as though the program has locked the file position at machine 0,0 and no amount of G54 touch offs will move the file from machine 0,0.

I think that this might be a misunderstanding on your part (or, of course, on mine)

The G-code itself seems to be offset from the origin.

If you touch-off X as -6 (At the current position) and Y also as -6, then I think you will see the profile move closer to being in-bounds.

Thank you for your reply. Let me further explain. The attached preview is the result after I have touched off both x and y to the position indicated by the tool cone.
Right after homing and loading the file The tool cone is located at machine 0,0 with the file loaded as in the attachment with x,y equal to 0 as well as the g54 offset equal to zero. I then move the cone to the position in the preview and touch off x and y to be zero at that position. The g54 indicates the offset was changed in the DRO to x=7 and y=7 (approx). However the screen never moves the file to the cone's new position, as shown. No amount of touching off moves the file onto the machine bed or anywhere else. it is frozen at machine 0,0.
This is a new install of linuxcnc which compiled with no issue and performs as the old version I used for 8 yrs with the exception of the touching off issue.

Just as an experiment, does the preview refresh button do anything?

Thank you. Unlike Mach 3 or 4 I see no preview refresh button. Is there a keyboard short cut refresh? Even reloading the file does nothing. Different files also does not change the behavior.

Solved. I had set the folder containing linuxcnc.var to read only. That read only status prevented the program from writing to linuxcnc.var. Removed read only and I can touch off as usual. Thank you all!
Check the operator first!!

I am glad you found that, I don't think there was any chance of me getting there by guesswork.
