General features are on the main LinuxCNC page, it can control a wide range of machines, from very simple to very, very complicated machines with 9 axis and each of those axis can have more than one joint/drive/motor, up to 8 i think, and any number of iputs and outputs, digital and analog, encoders, resolvers, glass scales, ethercat stuff, modbus, has it's own PLC named Clasic Ladder, has logic stuff like AND/OR/NAND/XOR/INV etc etc.
How many MHz does what run?
Mesa boards can output up to 10MHz pulses on each output at the same time, can count nearly as much pulses on inputs. Field inputs and outputs can do 1 KHz but can be pushed to 4 or more.
Read ahead can be set to 1 or 50 i think, not sure, but pretty sure the latest versions will read everything before the machine starts moving. You might want to double check this.
