Hi, I want to update the plasma cutter and I need more information about upgrade of ESAB ULTRAREX
I have to know:

 - The X and Y axis motors are kept?

 - Can we upgrade our engines? If so what type?

 - The MESA 7i77 card retrieves information from the machine origin, emergency stops and limit switches?

 - Do you have a wiring diagram?

 - The Z axis is driven by a plasma ring, can we replace it with an ohmic head?

 - The Z axis has a motor with bevel gear on rack, should it be modified with worm and nuts?

 - CNC linux works on virtual machine? or with intel processor?

Thank you

Replied by tommylight on topic French Esab Ultrarex UXD-P2000 update to MESA
Wiring diagram is attached somewhere on those links, or maybe also on another topic for a similar machine.
The X and Y motors are kept, they are very good.
If you do not yet have Mesa 7i77 (needs also a 5i25 or 6i25 or 7i92), get a Mesa 7i96S, 7i83, makes things easier for the Z axis and can be found at www.eusurplus.com or www.welectron.com in Europe.
You also need a stepper drive and Nema 23 motor, even cheap ones will do fine.
Z axis, remove mottor, mount the stepper, wire back to the drive in the computer case/panel.
LinuxCNC works with Intel and AMD and ARM, but not in a virtual machine.
Any used Dell or HP or Fujitsu PC should do fine.
