ParPort Choise. was created by dellos
Hi,
I am a newbie in LinuxCnc.

I am intent on doing some things like LinuxCnc -> ParPort -> Breakout Board -> Step motor Driver -> Step Motor

My PC does not have a Parallel Port so I searched around about how to use PCI or PCIe to extend a ParPort but there are many questions about how to make a ParPort card work. All I knew that is Chipset MSC9901 , MSC9865 will be OK

I checked Sunix 's cards and all of those cards just support SPP mode in Linux (according to Sunix's homepage).
Maybe SY-PEX10001 is the most suitable card, It supports all modes and remapping, IRQ. But I cannot find a supplier in my location, The only nearby version was SYBA SY-PEX10008.
//Questions are:
Does SYBA SY-PEX10008 card work well ( They don't support ReMapping and IRQ) .
When do I need Remapping and IRQ functions?
Is There a Document of LiunxCNC hardware setting more specifically?

I knew it was something like "don't know until trying it out" and it would be "More Cost". So, hope somebody's experience will help me reduce this cost.

Thanks.

There's is now so many cards under so many names that sometimes it can be a bit of a grab bag.

Most of the time it is "suck it and see", unless someone has a link to a specific card.

You may wanna have browse through this thread.

So far, all NETMOS or MOSChip ones worked for me, all PCI.
Trying to find some PCI-E ones to try, but not easy where i live.
