IBM r51e is bad idea? was created by mustafa
I have IBM r51e old laptop and I want to use this computer for linuxcnc. I tried debian 12 bookworm and latency test is over 53.000.000 then I try debian wheezy. when I don't do anything latency test is around 15000 but if I open any browser page latency test is higher then 350.000. Is it normal? Is there any solution for my problem? Will I have any problems if I use it this way?

Laptops are not good for machine control due to inherent latency issues resulting from power savings implemented to save battery power.
That being said, i have an R61E that does work and i have used it for quite a while to control a machine, but only for testing. It has Linux Mint 19.3 with XFCE desktop environment, but it is quite sluggish in use as it has only 1GB of ram.
Does it have a parallel port?
If yes, try older versions of LinuxCNC, those might just work, but first, you must disable everything related to power saving and hyperthreading and speed step and turbo in bios, otherwise nothing works.
Debian Wheezy with LinuxCNC:
linuxcnc.org/iso/linuxcnc-2.7.14-wheezy.iso
Ubuntu 10.04 with LinuxCNC
linuxcnc.org/iso/ubuntu-10.04-linuxcnc3-i386.iso

Thank you for your answer and sorry for delay. I tried your recommendation but probably my laptop isn't good for this job.
