Voltage on 7i83 outputs was created by cofford
Hello all,

I've made a lot of progress on my Tree 325 retrofit using a 7i95T and 7i83.  Digital inputs and outputs are working fine, and I can enable the analog outputs on the 7i83.  When I start up the machine by pushing the "Power on machine" button in the GUI, the analog outputs enable, and all 3 axes of the machine move until one axis hits the MIN_FERROR limit, at which time I get a joint following error.

I've tried changing the scale signs to see if the problem was a direction mismatch.  Changing the ENCODER_SCALE sign results in a swap in direction on the DRO, which is as expected.  Changing the OUTPUT_SCALE sign has no effect...The machine always moves in the same direction.

I did a bit more troubleshooting on an unused analog output on the 7i83.  With the analog output disabled, I read 0.001 V on my DMM.  With the axis enabled using HalShow, I read .387 V while HalShow shows 0 for the output value.  Changing the output value in HalShow results in no change to the output, which continues to read .387 V until the output is disabled.

All outputs appear to have this voltage offset when enabled, which explains the machine motion at startup and the joint following errors.  Any ideas on what to try next?

I'm running 7i95 default firmware, and have not flashed anything to the 7i83 (remains as-delivered).

hal and ini files attached.  They are still a bit of a work in progress.

Thanks,
Casey

Are you saying that:

hm2_7i95.0.7i83.0.0.analogout0

is 0 but the output voltage is 0.387V?

If so there is a problem with the 7I83, and it should be returned to
Mesa for analysis/repair/replacement

In the meantime, have a run through this, the "wiring and tuning" part, do some tests to see if the output react to changes in feedback.

I should add that you should check the unused output with the other outputs unconnected
as a wiring error could cause a bad output level issue.

Darn it. That's exactly what's going on. The only connections I've made to the card are 24v+, gnd, and the analog out connections (and the serial RJ45). Is there any test I can do beforehand to make sure it needs to go back?

EDIT: just saw your reply.  Will do, thanks.

Thanks,
Casey

Are you saying that you disconnected all the machine
drive wiring and you still get the 0.387V offset voltage?

No, that's the one thing I haven't tried yet. Will do and will report back.

FFS. I was measuring voltage on the enable pair instead of the analog out pair. All is well. Thanks for the help!
