What is gs2_vfd ? was created by gardenweazel
Recently purchased an Automation Direct DuraPulse GS21-23P0 VFD.

On this page I note "gs2_vfd - HAL non-realtime component for Automation Direct GS2 VFDs".

I'd like to confirm that this is the correct HAL component for my VFD?

As always, thanks in advance for your feedback.

The GS2 is an older Automation Direct VFD that has been discontinued. The gs2_vfd "may" work with the GS23 if the communication parameters are the same.

I'm looking at a GS23-2015 or maybe GS33-2015, anyone know if the gs2 will talk to them. more of a nice to have plan to do pwm and direction to drive. bigger need is orientate spindle for tool changer but willing to go manual or use a servo drive during tool change

Using orient.comp my GS3 and 2-pole Mitsubishi motor are just barely able to achieve a stable orient about 95% of the time.  I had to add a pneumatic shot-pin to ensure perfect alignment every time for the ATC.

A 4-pole motor and one of the newer GS23/33 VFD's should be able to orient nicely after some PID tuning - no servo or mechanical assistance is likely needed.

Note that I'm using 0-10v analog control - I've no idea how well orient.comp works with the modbus gs2 component.

thanks, I decided to go with the GS23-2015, i cant see the need for the more expensive one. I Have a Mitsubishi motor on this mazak vtc20, the tool release hits on a couple of key blocks. it does have a tool changer but look like it will take me some time to get that working. may just manually line it up when I change tools by hand. good to hear that you got the old vfd working for tool change there is hope for a machine with an ATC

Please see the response from JT. What I referenced is for a much older VFD. I believe your VFD is much newer, as in the latest technology and therfore you would not want to use gs2_vfd.

The GS23 and GS33 are much newer technology, I believe.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

The GS2 and GS3 are 'older technology' than the GS23/33, but a cursory review of the modbus sections in the manuals suggested to me that the gs2_vfd component may work with all three variations.

The thing to do is make a close comparison of the modbus registers for the GS2 and GS23/33.  If they match, gs2_vfd should work.  If they don't, maybe they're close enough that some minor editing would do the trick.

I haven't looked that close as I'm using analog control and setting up modbus to get info back from the VFD is way down on my priority list.  The 0-10v from the VFD to my Mesa card is working just fine for spindle load right now.
