I'm having difficulty getting my 85yo brain to remember how to set up my rebuild 3-axis stepper mill.
Firstly, should all the 'stops' that contact my nc limit switches be flexible ? (Rigid at the moment, but looks like a disaster waiting to happen)
Secondly, with one limit switch at each end of the travel, wired in series, which should I select in the Parallel Port set up ?
Got confused by my original notes, which suggested I used 'Minimum limit + Home', about 15 years ago with my first cnc mill !
Perhaps this is correct ?
Regards all,
John

i may have a greater problem, discovered this morning !
This is the box housing the controller, ex a 'Supercam' setup, which was my starting point years ago.

I have seen much worse, but never such concise structure !
From that picture, from the parts placement and diodes at the outputs, those seem to be L287/L298 stepper drives.

No, they should not be flexible, that messes precision, the switches should be mounted sideways so in case they are overrun as not to break them, machine should have hard stops, the triggering part should be set so the switch is triggered all the way to the hard stop.Firstly, should all the 'stops' that contact my nc limit switches be flexible ? Both limits + home.Secondly, with one limit switch at each end of the travel, wired in series, which should I select in the Parallel Port set up ?

The 'nest' has now been removed, but I need to do a final clean up !

Quick additional question - how do I save the half-completed stepconfig file ?
If I close down the window, will it automatically save under the name I've given the mill in the first window ?
John
EDIT
No need - I've just found the 'Apply' menu at the end of the config !
