Hi, I was curious if there is a way to reconnect to mesa card without restarting linuxCNC. Sometimes i turn my cnc machine off without quitting linuxCNC. It throws a hm2read error as it has lost the connection. But i cannot establish connection without restarting linuxcnc.
I've tried entering initialization line on my main hal file going "hm2_eth board_ip= ......."
also mesaflash with --reload argument

You can try "unload hostmot2" and then reloading it. But I think you would then then need to reload the specific card driver and re-make all the HAL connections.

Can you keep the Ethernet card powered? This will still likely require
re-homing if the drives have been powered down,
It is possible to re-connect to the card after a read error but I don't think
you can get things setup properly without basically relaunching LinuxCNC
so the hal file drivers are reloaded and all initial parameters are re-setup.

Hi, what about restart linuxcnc without reboot gui? Any idea about this?
Any ideas on how to do this?
The way I envision it: First we start the glade file with the mesa-board connection indicator and the “power” button. Clicking the button starts linuxuxcnc config.ini and activates a nested glade container with the control interface.
I have a very superficial understanding this, but I really want to find information to implement the above, please help!

Seems like it would be a lot easier to just keep the interface card powered
we are only talking a few watts here...

I have separate power controls for PC, MESA, Steppers & Spindle, if I'm going to be a away for a bit I just turn the Stepper & Spindle power off. And the way I have the relays that control the contactors if the mains goes & comes back on nothing energizes. To an outsider it may seem I have too many separate power supplies.
