Basic 2 Axis Lathe was created by hhscott
I have done a couple of CNC routers with LCNC and Ethernet Mesa but now wanting to convert my desktop Shop Smith lathe to LCNC. I ordered a 7I96S but I am wondering do I need to add a daughter card to get everything running?
Basis plan is to have a spindle/chuck encoder speed input plus an MPG for X and Z manual movement. Do I need another card to accomplish this?
Thanks,
HH

A 7i73 would be helpful for the controls. Or a 7i84.
The 7i73 is cheap and small, and only requires a sserial cable.
The 7i84 can keep all the voltages in your system the same (i.e. 24v), as well as being able to drive higher power outputs (bigger panel lights). And is easier to wire as it has screw terminals.
BOth can be set up with a matrix keypad for LOTS of inputs.
Make a list of all the control inputs - MPG's, and other buttons/switches, etc. you plan to add - and you can use the list I generated

to see what you need/want.

Thank you for the reply and for the chart! Navigating Mesa's selection for a novice is very confusing.
