Minimal setup for touch probe and tool setter ? was created by karnalta
Hi all,
I have an 3 axis CNC than I used rarely which is at the moment using LinuxCNC with QtDragon, but honestly, each time I try to use it, I spend the day having errors, crashes, ... It was working a few month ago and now each time the machine is about to start working (after all probing), it stop with a error like "Parameter is [3.000]".
I would like to know what is the minimal requirement to use a 3D touch probe and a tool height sensor with LinuxCNC ?
I will be glad to stick with the basic Axis UI and the minimal dependencies. All I need is :
- Touch X/Y zero with the probe.
- Touch the Z zero of my vise.
- Touch tool sensor at each tool change to adapt Z.
What is the easiest path for that ?
Thank you.

I am currently giving a try to Basic Probe.
It has both probing functions.

to get the most out of qtdragon's tool handling, you need repeatable tooling and premeasured tools.
With Tormach TTS tooling, they sell a small granite plate
tormach.com/small-granite-surface-plate-...tool-hole-31713.html
And you use a height gauge to measure the height of your probe and your tools
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Height_gauge
TTS can be used in R8 and MT3 spindles found on small machines, many people use at home.
This does work a treat when you have it all set up.

Hello,
I use this method.
With a flying probe that is in a fixed position to measure the tool and for Z I place it on the workpiece, for this the correct probe height (switching point) must be entered in QTDragon.

Frank wishes everyone best wishes, good health and a lovely relaxing holiday.
