New installation only boot with "nomodeset" was created by DaZeller
Hi there,
I've installed LinuxCNC 2.9.3 on a Dell Optiplex 755 with Intel Pentium Dual-Core and on-board GPU.
GRUB is working fine, but I'm only able to boot with "nomodeset" option. Otherwhise the pc freezes with black screen, no switch to console possible, just hard switch of is able to get out.
Now with "nomedeset" I'm able to use the system, but with quite poor grafics. I'd be glad if someone could assist me in finding the issue and fix it.
I'm looking forward your suggestions to deep dive the issue.
BR DaZeller

Search the Debian forums, should be plenty of results there.
From what i recall, that is always graphic card related, probably older blacklisted 915 or 945 models.
Try an old graphic card, preferably not NVIDIA as they tend to mess the latency badly.
Or use the older version of LinuxCNC ISO, and you really should if you plan to use the parallel port, try Wheezy version.

thank you tommy,
yes, I plan to use parallel port. Just for my understanding, why would then be Wheezy the better option?
Indeed I spend countless hours on debian sites and where doing a lot of try and error. but not yet any of the hints I found where successful.
What I can say abot the HW is:

Wheezy is older, hence better for older PC's, and uses the RTAI kernel that has better latency on older PC so you get more speed from the machine.
Download the ISO, boot from the USb, see if it works for you, usually takes 20-30 minutes total.
