Strange error after stopping file and adjusting part zero

Zeroed machine and did part zero.  Started program and saw that my x was off before tool reached the part.  (path is a ramp around the part so I could see the part outline before the tool started cutting.  Stopped the program and adjusted x part zero.  Now the program gives immediate error even if I reset x zero to original location.  The travel display shows the previous moves even when I reload the file.  It seems like LinuxCNC still has the movement captured somehow.  I could shut it all down and start over but would rather not zero the machine and relocate the part.  Is there a way to clear this without loosing my positioning?  The display shows Axis 2.7.4.  Maybe a newer version has fixed this if it's a bug?

That is a valid error. Why you are getting it is impossible to say without at least seeing the gcode program.

Sometime this happens if your gcode is written to use absolute IJK coordinates on arcs but you are using relative coordinates or vice versa.

Left everything on overnight and came back to it this morning. Thought maybe I did a pause rather than stop so fiddled a bit with the step, run, and stop buttons thinking stop might clear out things when pause would not. Not sure exactly what happened but it now doesn't give the error. Would be good to know why it happened and what to do to avoid the error or reset things if it happens again.
