the computer = Intel coreduo2 2.26ghz with 1gb Ram, VIA motherboard and chipset
I had a hardware falure and a file system crash (since been repaired) and had only just received the last update for EMC2
FYI : no config work's either

All I need to know is where to send this error report! and get help to fix it.
24 views and not one reply is starting to make me wonder.

I find that the debug file information is the most useful.
You should also expand on what you had, what happened and the steps you took to get where you are.

where the problem looks similar and was solved
Its a OpenGL problem maybe out of sync libraries...

Googling "error 4 in libGL.so.1.2"
led me to
bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/555158
Which looks to suggest ways to untangle a messed-up combination of video card drivers and libraries.

I hate having to ask dumb questions! you and every one elses feed back is HUGELY appreciated.
I am interested to know how you knew what was wrong and how you went about searching for known bugs.
The reason i ask for the logic behind your reply is so i can solve my own problems and not have to rely on members of the community like yourself. sure its always good to ask some one in the know, but its even better not to waste their time.
as for the graphics problem.... some how i am not surprised by your answer. I have had a 6 month old motherboard "die" and had to change back to older hardware.
Ubuntu seems to work without too many hang ups and most of them have been fixed now (if it happened in windows i would have had to do total reinstall and load hours worth of backups). Hopefully I figure out how to fix the openGL problem without a total reinstall, that is if that bug doesn't rain on my parade.

I just read the dmesg output starting at the end and working back to see if anything looked bad. The first hint is "RTAPI math unloaded" as that indicates that EMC2 is giving up. Above that is a line mentioning "segfault" and that is very bad. The next line up is saying that it has found the parport where expected, so that shows that all was good up to then.
So, that pretty much indicates that the segfault is the problem. (actually, you don't need to read anything else, that is a very serious problem with a bit of code trying to read completely the wrong bit of memory). I then put the bits of that line that looked useful into Google to see what turned up.
I left out the bits that indicate where in the code memory the problem occurred, as that is unique to your system, but I kept the error number and library file, ie "error 4 in libGL.so.1.2"
I have had a lot of practice at reading dmesg output, I spend a lot of time on hal drivers, and write a lot of bugs.

Well after reading the bug report URL you sent me and then looking into a few other similar gflx errors I found that the FGLRX app was the culprit.
So what I done was went to system>admin>synaptic typed in FGLRX and watched for what came up.
Basically FGLRX and all its dependencies show up to be ATI drivers (of the replaced hardward not actual hardware in use), API's, run-times and x server wrappers.
Before clicking for "complete removal" I made sure the drivers for my current hardware was in place. Once happy with that, I clicked everything ATI related for complete removal and then reset my machine.
worked like a charm!
the problem was openGL and 2 sets of crossed over and conflicting drivers and support dependencies.
once again thank you for your help, it pointed me in the right direction.
lol hopefully i wont ever have to "bug" you ever again (corny joke i know)
