How to use EMC was created by cheelam
Hi everyone,

I am doing a project which required me to use EMC. I need to test the usefulness of EMC before integrating with a CNC machine. However, I have no idea on how to use EMC and how its works. I am totally lost when reading those documents downloaded since I had no experience using CNC controller software before. I have a few question to ask:

1. What is .ini file?
2. Is there any step by step tutorial on how to use EMC?
3. Do I need other tool such as MasterCAM to generate g-code before loading into EMC?
4. Can I run simulation using EMC?

Any replies and comments are welcome and appreciated. Thanks for your help in advanced.
Thank you.

You might try starting here..
wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl/emcinfo.pl?Using_EMC2
You will also find simulator set ups to try in the sample configurations.
Also take a look here...
wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl/emc...MC_G-Code_Generators
The .ini file hold initial settings for setting up EMC and the machine it will run. It is normally produced by running Stepconf wizard.

The g-code can be written by hand, use one of the above generators or be converted from a CAD file by a separate program. EMC also has a filter to take Geyscale images and convert them.
