5i25 with Probotix Bob was created by 1Mustang
Hi, i ordered the 5i25 and the 7i76 combo from Mesa. The 5i25 arrived and i like to try it out since the 7i76 is back ordered a couple weeks.
I've installed in a Pci slot, and downloaded and unpacked the Mesa software for initializing the 5i25 but it appears to do nothing- No confirmation of install no lights on the 5i25 card, i tried using PnCConf for it but it appears it doesn't support the 5i25.
Is there a way to initialize the card in Ubuntu, the downloads from Mesa don't appear do anything. This is a dual boot machine, WindowsXP keeps asking me for the driver for the card, as far as i understand the driver is in Linux only, or am i missing something.
Just want to use the 5i25 with my Bob for now to get a feel of how it works.
Any idea's??
Thanx kindly in advance.

If the card was configured for a Probotix BOB there is no initialization required (see the label on the card)
if the card was configured for a 7I76, you will have to re-flash the card with the mesaflash utility
there are linux and windows versions of the utility
Note the HostMot2 configuration set is only supported by LinuxCNC
If you want pncconf to work with the 5I25, you will have to install the 5I25 XML files (see the pncconf section of the forum)

So i'am in Linux and i'm trying to flash the 5i25 and i get this error
Could not display "/home/john/Downloads/5i25/utils/linux/mesaflash
There is no application installed for executable files.
Even after giving Mesaflash permission to Allow executing file as program- i get nothing.
Nothing to say it flashed or did anything, all the lights on the board are still off. Any ideas?

The way you run mesaflash is from a linux terminal window
Flashing new firmware is probably not the best thing to do first if you are not familiar with linux and command line operations
Whats does the label on the 5I25 say? (it will indicate the factory installed firmware)

If you just want to see if it works, then you can do the following
open a terminal window
type
halrun
loadrt hostmot2
loadrt hm2_pci
show pin
exit
dmesg
That will load the LinuxCNC drive for the card, initialise the card, and list the names of all the HAL (software) pins. The last dmesg command should give you a list of what functions are on what pins of the card.
If you want to actually run your machine with the existing BoB, then you probably want to get the 5i25 XML file and run pncconf.
However, you have the 7i76 bitfile installed on the card at the moment, and flashing a new firmware isn't without risk.
I think that to run Mesaflash you have to open a terminal window, navigate to the mesaflash folder, then start it with ./mesaflash
The ./ (dot slash) is important.

Thank you Andy...just received the 7i76, and thought i'd run what you wrote to see if the 5i25 is recognized, which i believe it is.

You won't see any pins with "7i76" in the name until you connect the field power to the 7i76. (that also runs the on-board logic)However the 7i76 appears to be unrecognized, so far

Thought the 5i25 ran field power to the 7i76?
