5i25 + 7i85s +.... was created by casetero
Hello,

I´m a happy user of a combo 5i25 + 7i85s for control 3 motors with 3 encoders.

I need extra inputs and outputs now, and I don´t know which card should I add to my combo and how to do it.

I need 6 digital extra inputs for limit switches, but some extra inputs and outputs are welcome.

I need too an analogue output that can handle a 0 -10 V frequency converter.

Which card do you recommend me and how can I add it to my combo??

Thank you very much!!

The easy way to do this would be with a smart-serial card connected to the RS485 header on the 7i85s.
Note that there are 17 perfectly usable 5V TTL GPIO pins on the second header of the 5i25, though.

I need too an analogue output that can handle a 0 -10 V frequency converter.

Do you mean Variable frequency Drive or Motor Inverter when you say "frequency converter" ?

You could consider using the Spin1x. store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=produc...id=205&search=spinx1

Hi Andy, sorry for the delay answering.

You helped me a lot when i made my system few years ago! Thank you again

When you say smart-serial card you mean a mesa card or can be a generic card?

I mean Variable Frequency Drive, is the one i use to control the speed of the electro-spindle of the machine. My english is very bad i dont know if it will be the word i want to say so I attach you a file with what i mean.

Thank you!

I mean of these, which connect to SERIAL0 on the 7i85S.

Hi again,

This is my Variable Frequency Drive:

industrial.omron.co.uk/en/products/jx

I´ve been searching in the page for a daughter card that can solve my problem.

I dont see any single card that can do the two things i need to do ( 6 digital inputs for limit switches and 0-10 V analogue output for my Jx inverter). Nowadays my setup is 5i25 + 7i85s linked by a paralel port cable, can i add to this combo a 7i83 and a 7i84 to achieve my needs?

Thank you!!

You could consider modbus control.

Though this might be more work than it is worth as I don't think there is a specific HAL driver for that drive.

If you can find a PWM output spare on the 7i85 then you could use the Mesa Spin1X.

I prefer having a HAL driver for the card. My knowledge of programing is very low.

About the Mesa Spin 1X:

VOUT is a Analog voltage proportional to the PWM input signal and the Analog reference voltage (5 to 18VDC).

Does this means that the analogue output voltaje is 5-18 V??

I dont mind if i have to buy a second 5i25 card to achieve my needs.

Thank you again.

No, it means that if the analogue reference from the VFD 9s 5V then 0% PWM will be 0V and 100% PWM will be 5V.
If, however, the analogur reference from the VFD is 12V then 100% PWM will give you 12V.

What it is saying is that the valid range of analogue reference voltages from the VFD to which it can be connected is 5V to 18V.

The SPINX1 is a digital potentiometer replacement, that is,
it takes a fixed voltage (5 to 18V) and generates a
variable voltage that depends on the PWM duty cycle
so if you supplied 12V to the SPINX1 and the PWM input duty
cycle was 50% you would get a 6V output (and 3V for a 25% duty cycle etc)

Most VFDs have a speed control input that's designed to work with a
potentiometer, that is, they have a 10V voltage source, a speed control input,
and a common pin. These can be connected to the SPINX1 and allow
LinuxCNC to control the spindle speed by varying the PWM output duty cycles

My VFD can be managed by a 10 V analogue signal.

So, if i have understood correctly, i need a 10 V power supply connected to the SPINX1. I also need to use a PWM output from Linuxcnc connected to the SPINX1.

How would i do this? Do i have to connect the SPINX1 to the 7i85s?

If this is correct, i can do this and connect to the second connector of the 5i25 a 7i84 daughter card to have the 6 digital inputs for the limit switches, cant i?

Thank you!
