Like bevins suggests, It kind of sounds like the host network is
not setup properly: if the IP address is just wrong on either end you
should get something like:
Starting LinuxCNC...
Found file(REL): ./hm2-servo-7i97.hal
Note: Using POSIX realtime
hm2: loading Mesa HostMot2 driver version 0.15
hm2_eth: loading Mesa AnyIO HostMot2 ethernet driver version 0.2
hm2_eth: ERROR: 10.10.10.10: Could not retrieve mac address
hm2_eth: rtapi_app_main: Resource temporarily unavailable (-11)
./hm2-servo-7i97.hal:45: waitpid failed /home/pcw/linuxcnc-dev/bin/rtapi_app hm2_eth
./hm2-servo-7i97.hal:45: /home/pcw/linuxcnc-dev/bin/rtapi_app exited without becoming ready
./hm2-servo-7i97.hal:45: insmod for hm2_eth failed, returned -1
Shutting down and cleaning up LinuxCNC...

You guys were right, I had some messed up config on my ethernet connection profile, I updated it to match the card and voila.
I just got the LinuxCNC program up and running on my steppers, thank you!
