Pncconf ability to configure the 7i43 has not been removed (but i haven't tested it in a long time), but it requires the firmware XML files to be in the system. From memory there was a separate package to install the 'official' firmware.
This is why the 'missing firmware' dialog pops up in pncconf.

ok grazie mille

sorry I pasted the wrong part of the translator ;-)

OK, thanks a lot
Just to clarify my ideas and in case it might be useful to anyone else:

where do I find this file?
Is it in the 7i43 support software download from mesanet.com?
If it's not there where can I find it?

From what you tell me, do I have to put (or install?) the .xml file of the configuration I want to use in /lib/firmware/hm2/7i43-4/?

linuxcnc supplied the XML - its an old way of doing things.
IIRC the mesaflash program can create an XML but it's not always completely compatible.

but you can copy the XML files from the 2.8 system and add then to another system.
Just a but of a pain in the ass.

It's been so long I would need to de some investigation to give more details.

So on the 2.8 system there should be folders in:
/lib/firmware/hm2/
that correspond to the board names and in those folders are the different XML files.

If you copy those folders to the 2.9 system (in the same location) then pncconf should find them.

thank you very much for your interest

I saw that you are one of the developers of the program... and who better than you could help me understand...

perhaps there will be few of us who use this 7i43 card and many new installations will use something more powerful and modern

I didn't want to raise a fuss with this question of mine but what seemed strange to me is that they had removed the possibility of using this type of card... was it perhaps an oversight or something intentional?

if with 2.9.1 I want to use pncconf to set the 7i43 I can't do it because there are no files in the right folder... but if I had created the .ini file and the .net file by hand with all the necessary settings the would the system have started or would it have given me an error?

grazie
Roberto

I would say an oversight.
I had no idea the firmware deb was not available any more.

here is the repo readme:

I read the link :-)

would it be a big problem to put the firmware of the old mesa cards, even if they are no longer maintained by the community, back into the installation or some online patch/update of linuxcnc???

or would it be too complicated to implement yet and not convenient for the user community?

I'm continuing this post so that if anyone else has the same difficulties they can resolve the situation more quickly...

ciao
