I am hoping that GTK2 will be expunged from Master, along with Python2

It has the lcnc widgets for glade2. If it's not what your looking for, ignore this post.

dpkg -i glade-gtk2_3.8.0-0ubuntu6_amd64.deb

thanks, I'll try it..........

I know this whole update thing with Python3 and Gt, etc, is ongoing. Sure would be nice to have a status page somewhere.....

oh, is this backwards compatible?   would be handy, but not really necessary.

Hi,

If you open up the .deb archives, you can see where the data will be placed.
I expect it is working on python2. But most of the lcnc users have python2+3 installed together.

* oh, is this backwards compatible?
I haven't tried to install it on
Linux debian10 5.10.0-8-rt-amd64  Debian 5.10.46-4 (2021-08-03) x86_64 GNU/Linux
But i think i will get the glade + lcnc widgets going.

You can report error's.

If you are using current master you should switch to python3.
Trying to use python2 in master (now) is going to be a painful experience.

Not sure what probe screen you are talking of but if it's gladevcp based and not converted to python3 - you are out of luck for use in master.

sorta what I figured.
this is the probe screen
forum.linuxcnc.org/49-basic-configuration/29187-work-with-probe

and there is actually a 2nd version. not sure of its status.

So, I'm looking at QTDragon. nice. What is its status? still in development? or ready for prime time???

Ahh versa probe - qtvcp has a version (in python3)

I of course have no metrics on how many people use Qtdragon.
But people do. From time to time I or Jim (the creator) am fixing small bugs or adds features.
It is being used, but its not a ten year old piece of code :).
Surely the two available probe screens are the least tested part.
If you try it, please give feedback.

Chris, thanks for the info.
I'm converting a new, small mill. Down to the last few details, and thinking of which gui to use. I've use the good old standard axis for 15 years now, with the addition of probe_screen, and feature cam (Norbert's code.)
I definitely want a touch screen gui. already have the monitor.
But I don't want to have to do a bunch of customizations myself. looking for something fairly mature, and well supported. I know gui's take time to mature......

Qtdragon seems pretty nice. It just needs to be resizable, not a fixed size window.
And I don't mind testing stuff out, so long as there is good support. I am not a programmer and do not wish to be. I only know Fortran4.

I have Qtdragon installed, but not entirely working, on my old big BP.
So, I'll see how it goes......
Hope it's ok if I ping you on the IRC
