USB? The USB version of the 7i43 is not supported by LinuxCNC (to the best of my knowledge).
Which version of the 7i43 do you have?

It should work on the EPP interface. Which interface are you using?

You should be able to configure the 7i43 on EPP with the PNCConf Wizard.

the 7i43 works fine with Linuxcnc , but you can only use the printerport configuration , USB does not work , and never will .
also you need to have your pc bios set to EPP mode , and use a printer port cable where all pins are connected 1:1
some of the cheaper printer cables are not fully populated .
the configuration of the 7i43 is done through or via your hal configuration file . there is no need to reprogram it prior to use

Just to clarify your remarks -
I just hook up the 7i43-U-4 to the LinuxCnc and it will load the various firmware needed? I don't need to pre-load any software from Mesa?
I'm presuming that I would need to flip the switches to the EPP mode.
Thanks
WTB

The 7I43 is only supported in EPP mode by LinuxCNC
LinuxCNC always loads the firmware into the FPGA at startup
The firmware to be loaded is specified on the driver command line
For this to work, the 7I43 must be jumpered for EPP mode and
firmware load from flash option disabled
