Mesa 7i43 initial setup issues was created by novathedestroyer
so I am super new to 3d printing and am having some trouble. i currently have my mesa 7i43 plugged into the parallel port and the motors hooked up. but for some reason when i launch the sample configuration my motors arent turning, my epp port is enabled and i checked the connections, i am just kinda lost. any input would be great

linuxcnc boots up, and the motors are connected via polou 4988 motor drivers

What firmware are you using?

Im using the firmware SVST4_4 to try to run 4 steppers, without encoders

Which pins of the 7I43 go to your step driver step/dir pins?

while attempting to test the motors i only had 1 motor hooked in, and I just realized I had it step plugged into pin 1... which pins should i plug my step and direction into? im using the 7i43-big sample configuration for now

if you look at the kernel log (with dmesg) the driver lists the pinout of the firmware configuration used

If i am going to be upgrading this to use encoders am i going to need a new motor driver, or would what i have still work?

SVST4_4 gives you 4 encoders as default
