XY Position Confusion

I am struggling to figure out how the physical position of my table needs to be communicated to match where LinuxCNC thinks it is.

I would like my mill to home the table in the front left corner when looking down. I am trying to set my home locations so that each axis is displayed as going from 0 to max travel. For the X axis, having the table all the way to the left corresponds to it being at max travel, correct (in my case 7.8")? And the same for the Y axis, 3.9" for me? Or do I have it backwards and the front left corner would by X0 Y0?

From messing with the step and direction pins, it seems like in order to have the display and the table both at the front left corner I have to invert the direction pin so that pushing the left arrow key moves the table to the right.

Thank you

You may wan to look at this diagram

linuxcnc.org/docs/2.7/html/user/user-con...chine_configurations

When thinking of movement think of the table being stationary and the tool moving.

Thank you very much, that image was exactly what I needed to wrap my head around it. It all seems backwards but it does make sense.

To begin with it does, you just need to think it's the tool that moves, similar to a gantry type machine.
