Greetings,
Not sure what words to search for so here is my quest...
I have an XYZA milling machine and the spindle is controlled via a VFD device receiving commands from LinuxCNC (FWD, REV, RPM).
There is room to attach a device, the name of the device I need, to monitor the RPM. (Tachometer?)
Can I attach it to LinuxCNC to enable tapping? I have some floating tap holders.
The machine is a Smithy 1240CNC running LinuxCNC 2.5.4 with the AXIS interface.
Cheers,
Dave

Yes, you need a spindle encoder.
(And you won't need floating tap holders if you set it up right, you can hold the taps rigidly. But floating holders will work too.)
