Why do you think that you don't need PWM? How else do you intend to control the analogue output of the BoB?

Currently you are just sending on-off to pin 17.

The MACH3 setup you linked to even shows PWM control, and puts the PWM on parport pin 1.

You should be able to do this in Stepconf. Set Pin 1 to Spindle PWM.

So to be clear the 0-10 volt has to have pwmgen to communicate with linuxcnc/ Do i need scaling? I am still getting max spindle speed only. I have attached the new .hal I must be missing something?

Is the VFD configured for external voltage control?

If you measure the analogue output with a voltmeter does it vary with commanded spindle speed?

The vfd is configured for external voltage.

Any spindle command that I issue turns the spindle on and it goes to max speed.

I have 9.86 volts at the 0-10v in terminal on the vfd whether the machine is running or not.

Your questions imply that the .hal file is correct?

Thank you for the help.

The HAL file looks largely correct, yes.

Does the voltage on the input pins vary if you change the spindle set speed?

If it is 10V for zero speed and 0 V for 2400 rpm then perhaps the PWM output pin needs to be inverted.

You can view the PWM output at the Parallel port pin with Halscope. You should see that vary as you change the spindle speed.

Hi Andy,

I wanted to let you know that I am up and running. Inverting the signal on pin 1 did the trick. I appreciate all of your help. I am attaching my .hal file for reference in case someone else runs into the askpower vfd and the ST-V2 Breakout Board. I have the 10v out from the board connected to the the 10v in on the vfd and the ground. I am using Pin 17 through the relay to start the spindle. Than is conected to the fwd terminal on the vfd and a ground.

Thanks again for all of your help.

Bill
