Chinese 6040T Stepgen configuration was created by bixter1
hello all. I am new to CNC machines (coming from 3D printers). I bought a Chinese 6040T and retrofitted a 7i80 -> mx4660 . I got all of that working. I am now trying to figure out my correct steps/durations and am kind of at a loss. i have no clue what the specs are of my steppers. I have been using a micrometer to dial those in but feel the #s are roughly based on reading and brute force.
The stepper motor is listed as a 57 two-phase 3A 150N.cm. I know for a fact i have 2 different motors on there but.... No word from the vendor on stepper specs so I am hoping someone can help me.
Any suggestions on what else I can read or another way to work these out? At this point in the game i wouldnt mind swapping out the steppers for some real ones. Let me know!!

All depends on how Fast you like to go
about 5m/min up to 200ipm
shoudt be no probelm
the mx46 has a good timing
so you shoudt be up on 5000 5000 8000 12000
with a latency setting of standard 100000 in INI
as you use 7i80
you can try to get down to 2200 2200 4500 6000
as on ACC (aceleration) 500 with your given Speed 12m/min
Go up as mutch as you see untill stall
the 2.7.14 will tell you when the timing will be overclocked
then go back 25% an you are SAFE

Awesome information. I am on Ubuntu 18.04 with the latest RT patches and running the latest github master (2.8 pre) in uspace. Works great.
For the numbers is it:
stepgen len: 5000
stepgen dur: 5000
dir setup: 8000
dir hold: 12000
The latency is 100,000 which is the thread period? I have my servo at 1,000,000 and base at 25,000 . I am using the base for a pwgen for my VFD spindle control which i am going to change to modbus anyway so i can most likely change everything to 100,000 without issue.
I will try the numbers when I get home tonight. thanks so much for the help!

Just to follow up and thank you for your help. Below is what i ended up with.
I ended up with:
STEPGEN_MAX_VEL = 500
STEPGEN_MAX_ACC = 900
STEPLEN = 2200
STEPSPACE = 2200
DIRHOLD = 4500
DIRSETUP = 6000
