Question on half step config

Hi folks,

I'm running DC steppers at full step configuration, the motor and drive manufacturer suggested I use half stepping.
My HAL has the following line:
loadrt stepgen step_type=0,0,0,0 (I'm running a 4 axis drive)

I have been digging for hours to try and discern if this is the proper place to change to half steps, if I change this to read:
loadrt stepgen step_type=1,1,1,1
will that make the change in "Logic" I'm looking for?
And, are there any other changes I need to make in the software to get this to work? (The drive will naturally need to be adjusted)

Thanks in advance

To change from full to half steps in Linuxcnc, simply multiply your axis scale x2 in your ini file. You also must make the change on your driver, usually dip switches or jumpers.

Don't mess with the stepgen config line in the hal file.

Hey Todd,

That was my second guess. lol

I was looking through the AA manual for my driver and it states the following:

Excitation Mode Select: (Terminal 8)
Pulled up to +5V through 10KÙ
Logic "1" - Half-step
Logic "O" - 2 ö Full-step

At first I thought removing the wire on Terminal 8 was the thing to do, but I'm not sure now exactly what they are trying to say here.
What would you suggest? (I can always wait until Monday AM to call them for clarity).

Thanks for the help as always, Allen

The "Breakout board", a pin out on the LPT.
In short, LCNC

Is that an old unipolar stepper drive from Anaheim Automation? I think most of them default to half stepping. To set to full steps you connect a jumper wire from that terminal to ground or voltage (can't remember).

Todd,
This is an old DPF72004, as I recall you leave that wire disconnected for half step, I will check with them to confirm.

pl7i92,
This drive has an odd layout, dip switches for some things but not for the stepping, maybe because it's older.

Thanks again for the help.
