Configuration for Tormach 440? was created by TheWylieStCoyote
Hello,
I just bought a used Tormach 440 without PathPilot and thought I would give with LinuxCNC. Is this something that anyone has done? If so would you be willing to share how it worked and how you did it.
Thanks,
Wylie

Linuxcnc comes with some example Tormach configs. One of them may be very close to what you need. Alternatively you could try importing your Mach3 xml config file with Stepconfig to get a start on a configuration for your machine. The best solution might be a combination of the two.
I don't have a Tormach machine and know little about them. What kind of hardware interface does it have now? If it just uses an ordinary parallel port you probably won't need to change anything. But if it has a Smoothstepper or some other Mach3 only hardware, you may need to replace it.

The 440 uses a Leadshine MX3660 triple step motor drive that is parallel port compatible
(Their interface hardware is LinuxCNC compatible)

Todd Zuercher:
I opened up the configurations for the Tormach 1100/770 and was unsure what I should change in order to make it work on the 440. There seems to be less documentation for what pin connects to what on the 440.
PCW:
Is there a configuration for the Leadshine MX3660 driver that should work? I have a Mesa card installed in my PC. Is it not possible to use this over the parallel port without using a 7i76 or equivalent.

Yes there is a MX3660 firmware configuration for the 5I25 (though its not exactly the same as Tormachs configuration for the 5I25)

Awesome thanks,
I will give it a try and report back with the results, and maybe a working configuration file for others to start with.
