I'm confused now because I thought the isolated spindle output on the 7i76 was to be able to interface with non isolated drives.
Would this be suitable? uk.rs-online.com/web/p/isolated-dc-dc-converters/1874585/

It can interface with non-isolated drives but the drive must supply about
5mA for the digital potentiometer circuitry.
That 12V DC-DC converter should work (with possible scale changes in the ini file to adjust for the 12V full scale output)

Looks like there is a problem as the sprint manual has the 10v output rated at 10maA max so should be plenty.
I also cant get the Spindle enable to work either so could be a problem with the 7i76.
Looking at the sprint manual there is a trim pot in the low side which might need to be adjusted. there is also a direct spped input on pin 66 which may be a better option
Can I test the 7i76 output by hooking up a separate 10v feed and check the output ?

Yes, you can use a separate supply to test the 7I76 analog output
(and an ohmmeter to test the enable output)
It does look like you should connect 7I76 SPIN- to Drive COM = pin 4
not Drive MIN = pin2
The MIN pot resistance is likely the reason you only got 2.7V

Thanks for the quick response, that's a great help.
Just seen another post saying the same thing so hopefully that's all that's wrong.

What values should I see as normal operation?(and an ohmmeter to test the enable output)

Some resistance for "on" and infinite resistance for "off"
Sometimes the diode test selection works better as a continuity tester

Main problem is solved so Thanks for the advice. Worked perfect when Spin - was connected to a com rather than the min output on the sprint 400.
I'm still having trouble with Spin enable and direction. I tested the resistance and it did change but not very much 4meg to 2 meg.
To get the mill working I have set one of the outputs for spindle cw and using that to trigger the spindle relay. As long as I don't run out of I/O I should be ok.

Changing from 2 to 4M is probably OK
(the "on" voltage of the OPTOs is high enough that they will never read a
low resistance on most meters)
The OPTOs are basically switches so its good to test your hardware with a mechanical
switch first, If a mechanical switch works, the OPTOs should as well

Just out of interest, what do your stepper drives and motors look like? I might have a set going spare.

Hi Andy, sorry only just seen this. Stepper dives are the stepper online digital ones and the motors are standard.
