Some question on high power nema 11 motor was created by huranking
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a high power stepper motor for a project where I'm trying to minimize the size of the device. In essence, the Nema size of the stepper directly dictates how shallow I will be able to design the device (the length of the motor doesn't really matter, also the price is secondary). Now the stepper should produce a holding torque of at least 0.27 Nm (=38 oz-in) and keep that torque up fairly well to around 400 RPM. The best I could find with these prerequisites was a Nema 14 stepper from www.oyostepper.com:
www.oyostepper.com/goods-20-Nema-14-Step...35x52mm-4-Wires.html
However, I would like to be able to reduce the size even further than the 35 mm given by this motor. Any advice on where I could find small but high-power steppers, maybe a Nema 11 with similar power? Or any other ideas for alternatives?
This is my first post on electronicspoint so I'm looking forward to start interacting with you guys
Cheers

At work our machines use some steppers from Oriental Motors, Japanese not chinese
Top notch quality
www.orientalmotor.com/stepper-motors/stepper-motor-only.html
Those are small and some torque
www.orientalmotor.com/stepper-motors/2-p...tors-pkp-series.html

Maybe a servo and reduction gearing?
I just tried building a combination here:
www.maxongroup.co.uk/maxon/view/catalog/?target=combination0
(I doubt the link will work for you) using an EC30 motor (9000 rpm / 0.06 Nm) and a 21:1 gearhead, giving something like 3Nm @ 400rpm. That's a lot more than you asked for, so perhaps you could go down to an EC20....
I leave you to explore the options there. But be warned that when you add encoders etc you end up with an expensive thing.)
