Linuxcnc crashes, parallel port not found

Linuxcnc crashes, parallel port not found was created by flexbex
I created a configuration with the stepconf wizzard. I intend to use my parallel port for it. When i start it it stops with an error message. I think that the reason is that linuxcnc doesn't find my parallel port.
But in lspci it doesn't show up
Any ideas what could be the reason
thanks Felix

Is your on-board parallel port enabled in the BIOS?

What kind of computer are you using ?
Have you tried messing any BIOS settings something like IRQs and the like ?
Any details on the card you are using ?
Try this:and relay the output.
Some corporate machines have so called "white lists" which only allow a small range of cards to be installed.

Ok I digged a bit deeper. I found out that I have indeed an onboard parallel port besides the pci card on my motherboard. it just doesn't have a physical appearence on the outside. But don't know if it works either. Further after I cleaned the contacts of my parallel pci card I got a new entry under lspci.
Is that the parallel port? But why does it show up as serial? Still can't start linuxcnc with it.

I'd pull out the PCI card and have a look in the BIOS, there's a good chance the on board Parallel Port has been disabled.

I did already. The only thing which changes is that with the external parallel card in I get an extra entry when I call lspci. But that is listed as a serial controller. With lsmod In both cases I get the entry for parport. So I guess that this is loaded for the built in one

I'd run dmesg and see what pops when you only have the on board parallel port.
What info do you get about the parallel port in the BIOS ?
Is there a option in the BIOS that restricts access to io ports ?
