Hello all
I'm working on connecting a mesa 7i76e to a delta VFD e series. This is what I've got so far and I'm hoping for some help confirming I'm on track. Also is it ok to connect direct to the mesa or should I be using relays?

Thanks

7i76e DELTA VFD-E
TB4 pin 1 - ACM
TB4 pin 2 - AVI
TB4 pin 3 - 10V
TB4 pin 4 - not used
TB4 pin 5 - MI2
TB4 pin 6 - MI1
TB4 pin 7 - MI2
TB4 pin 8 - MI1

Field Power DELTA VFD-E
TB1 pin 8 - DCM
TB1 pin 5 - 24v

Parameter 04.04 must be set to:

1: 2-wire: FWD/REV, RUN/STOP

There should be no connection to the VFDs +24V terminal
There should be no other connection to DCM other than TB4 pins 5 and 7
(this wiring is for NPN mode)

PCW,

how about interfacing the Delta VFD-E to a SPIX1 board?

Basically the same except the VFD is set to FWD/REV mode
and you need to setup PWM on the host

PCW thanks,
pwm on the host is easy...so is setting the FWD/REV mode.

I'm not clear with the DCM, MI1, MI2, etc connections to the SPIN board.

or with how/what the CCW+-, CW+-, and ENA+- works.

so like this?

CCW+ >> MI2
CCW- >> DCM
CW+ >> MI1
CW- >> DCM
ENA+ >>>>>>>>>>> ?????? no connect?
ENA- >>>>>>>>>>> ?????? no connect?

Yes just CW and CCW (and the analog out) are used

PCW,
well, i got most of it working, even with pid.
Unfortunately, the spindle encoder is actually a simple hall sensor with 4 magnets in the spindle shaft....so only a single signal.

so the encoder velocity is always positive....for the spindle turning either direction.

If I use absolute values for the pid the spindle is stable, but only turns in one direction, no matter the command as forward or reverse....
Usable for simple machining, but certainly not for tapping, which is what I definitely need.

I considered using a cludge of logics to change the DIR signal, and rerouting the modified DIR signal to a different GPIO pin, thereby getting the correct direction signal to the SPIX1 board.

of course, installing a real encoder.....pretty difficult to do at this time.

Any thoughts....?????

Rigid tapping needs a real encoder with A and B
otherwise LinuxCNC has no idea when motion reverses

(It also requires an index signal)
