Hello

I have been trying to get linuxcnc fresh install running.

Machine has been run with same pc and same mesacards before.
HW is 100% sure to work.
Ini files and hal files are ok, have been running this setup day ago.

Problem came after installing newer linuxcnc:
I have downloaded latest iso from linuxcnc.org --> LinuxCNC 2.8.0 Debian 10 Buster PREEMPT-RT ISO

Setup to PC goes smooth without any errors.
Linuxcnc axis sim runs fine, no problem.

But I can not get mesacards to run.
It gives following error:

I done this setup 3 times and it gives same error.
Any idea what goes wrong?

It says "using posix non realtime" so that is not the kernel with the official LinuxCNC distro.
Did you upgrade the kernel ? It should not be upgraded .
hold down the shift key when you boot the pc and choose the RT kernel at the grub menu, test again.

OK
That is odd, cause it is a livecd install?

But I will try it.

No help.
Linux was running with real-time mode.
And I get same error as before.

Is LinuxCNC 2.8.0 Debian 10 Buster PREEMPT-RT ISO compatible with 6i25-7i77 combo?

It is compatible, moving on.
What does
uname -a
in a terminal return?
For updating and upgrading use:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
never use "sudo apt-get upgrade" on a LinuxCNC distribution as that will most probably replace the kernel.

The permissions issue is not really Mesa related (if would fail on parallel ports as well)

It looks like a LinuxCNC install problem of some kind but why don't others see the same issue?

Hello

I tried with other older PC and that one does not have this "cannot gain I/O privileges" problem.

Any ideal ?

Someone else had a similar issue:

forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc...i-o-privileges-error

Maybe BIOS settngs related?
