Problem with 7i96 board connection “No 7i96 board found was created by ML
Hello everyone!
Unfortunately I am not good familiar with programming( I faced with problem when setting up my linuxcnc and mesa card 7i96.
I installed Debian 10, changed Kernel to Linux debian 4.19.0-16-rt-amd64
I have:
- installed linuxcnc
- connect mesa 7i96 via Ethernet w5 down and w6 up
- set address 10.10.10.10 , mask 8, Gateway 10.10.10.1 dns 10.10.10.1
- install mesaflash
- try ping 10.10.10.10 is OK
When I try perform command:
“mesaflash - -device 7i96 - -addr 10.10.10.10 - - readhmid” or try write bit file (flash) 7i96d.bit
I got:
“No 7I96 board found”
I we seen posts about 7i92 card but can not understand how use this information in my case.
Thanks for any help!

Did you set the IP address of your PC to 10.10.10.10 ?
If so the PC needs a different IP address to the MESA card. Something like 10.10.10.2, the DNS & Gateway aren't required.
Any info regarding IP settings from a 7i92 setup can be used for a 7i96 setup, especially regarding the PC side of the setup . (I can't say for sure about jumper settings)

You have the PC and 7i96 both set to 10.10.10.10, this will not work.
The PC MUST NOT be set to the same IP as the 7i96.
The dialogue in your screen shot is what sets the IP address of the PC. DO NOT SET IT TO 10.10.10.10
Set the PC's address to something like 10.10.10.2
The Gateway & DNS addresses are not required as the only two devices on that network should be the PC and the 7i96.
The Gateway is only needed if you are accessing a network other than 10.x.x.x
The DNS Server is only required if you name resolution on that network.

Super) You were right. Thank you so much!
Actually I have a lot questions about Mesa cards and linuxcnc (some of them may be stupid).
- How safe turn off mesa card - can I just remove power cable?
- It is safe to make changes (when I test/try different settings for stepper motor etc. I time to time probably have to open config and make changes) in pncconf ?

Glad you got it going.
I think the recommendation for the MESA cards is a slow fall.
ie disconnect the power from the PSU rather than the MESA card.
Just make sure you have a back up of your last known config and you should be good.

I want assemble plasma cutting table (150cm*200cm) XXYZ using only 7i96 card (without additional daughter cards). I have THCAD 300 that I gonna use for torch height controlling. As I right understand for that table I should use 7i96d.bit configuration (or maybe I should pay attention on other configuration), am I right?

You need one that is for plasma that has the enc for thc. I think it is 7i96dpl.bit or something similar. pl or plasma.
