Hello! I follow very closely in @RotarySMP's footsteps getting here but I at long last have motors moving under control.
The question I have is, has anyone ever made the tailstock quill an axis? I'm a long way from needing to implement it, just curious. Being rather unimpressed with the flimsy tailstock that came with the 7x lathe I'm starting with, I have the opportunity to design something better from the start.
I don't know if the relevant people will see this, but thank you to all who had a hand in creating LinuxCNC; I look forward to exploring it in detail.

Hi
Yes i have also moded my tailstock for add a motor and control this axe with Y letter, from my test impossible to use W due to some limitation in trajectory planner. (can't do rigid taping with W axis)
