Mesa 7i94 + 7i78

Hi,

I have a 7i94 working with a bunch of STMBL drives. Now I'd need to hook up the Jian-Ken spindle and I purchased a 7i78. My question is do I need to update the firmware on 7i94? In the download bundle for 7i94 there is no combo for 7i94+7i78.

A bonus question would be how can I mod the setup so that one of the step/dir outputs on the 7i78 would output PWM for a laser?

I did:

sudo mesaflash --device 7i94 --write 7i94ss_7i78pd.bit --addr 10.10.10.10

The flashing seemed to work great. Now I'm a bit confused as to where the 7i78 pins are located in HAL Configuration. Do I need to tell LinuxCNC there's a 7i78 hooked up to the 7i94?

I can see Pins->hm2_7i94->gpio but they don't seem to be connected to the 7i78 pins when toggling the outputs in Test HAL Command.

The expansion connector on the 7I94 needs to be enabled by setting GPIO41 low:

setp hm2_7i94.0.gpio.041.is_output true
setp hm2_7i94.0.gpio.041.out false

Thanks! Is there some documentation I could read on how to get a daughter card set up? I wouldn't want to bug you with every detail...

I would probably start with a pncconf configuration for a similar setup
(say a 7I92+G540) and then fix the FPGA card name. this will allow
you to setup the axis and axis calibration plus spindle PWM in the pncconf
GUI.


I did add the GPIO41 info to the 7I94 manual
